Gwar play Irving Plaza

Earlier this year, GWAR lost their founding member and longtime leader Dave Brockie, aka Oderus Urungus, to an accidental heroin overdose. Brockie was the constant in a rotating cast of characters and on this tour, which stopped at Manhattan’s Irving Plaza on November 30, his former bandmates complete his character’s mythos, playing out a musical enactment of Oderus’s death involving big swords and lots of spurting blood.

Openers American Sharks from Austin, Texas, impressed the crowd with their energy, music and onstage banter. After that, an almost-full house loudly welcomed Corrosion of Conformity, who played all the favorites and got the crowd going with a chant of “Gwar, Gwar, Gwar…” midway through.
